ZANESVILLE -- Brian C. McCarty, 46, of Valparaiso, Ind., died at 4:13 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso. He was born Oct. 2, 1957, in Hammond, Ind. Surviving are his parents, James and Marilyn Denning McCarty of Zanesvile; sons, Mark and Clifford McCarty of Indiana; brothers, Daniel McCarty of Hammond, Ind., David (Connie) McCarty of Honolulu, Hawaii, James W. (Carol) McCarty of Zanesville, Frank (Jennifer) McCarty of Adamsville and Todd McCarty of Columbus; sisters, Victoria (Rick) Hall of Philo; Lora "Suzie" McCarty of Zanesville, Catherine Wells of Zanesville and April Wells of Gary, Ind.; and grandchildren, Morgan, Anthony, Angel and Zachary McCarty. He was preceded in death by his son, Mickey McCarty; and grandparents, Louise and William Denning and Keith and Penny McCarty. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, 56 S. Fifth St. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at the funeral home, with Pastor Randy Jones officiating. Burial will be in Williams Cemetery.

"Brian had been robbed & shot in 1998 & was paralyzed from waist down & in a wheelchair but he got better after year or so & opened his car lot again. He got an infection in a sore & spent months in hospitals & rest homes in Indiana. We miss him and Suzie so badly. The guy who shot Brian has life with no parole as he killed Brian's partner thru the head then shot at Brian & went thru all stomach & all parts thereof. The girl with him held Brian at gunpoint but didn't shoot. She has a long sentence -- I forget how many yrs. He had no insurance & we tried to get help from VICTIMS OF VIOLENT CRIME but couldn't."
