Cecilia Stewart Sherman
She with whom John Sherman has trodden life's pathway for over half a century passed into eternal rest during the first hour of this June day. The stroke of paralysis which came upon Mrs. Sherman Sunday afternoon has exhausted the wonderful vitality that had withstood the previous attack, of the unconquerable enemy of life, and without having regained consciousness, she entered the unseen world.
Cecilia Stewart Sherman was the worthy helpmate of one of the nation's really great men. She was born in Mansfield of parents on both sides numbered among the honored pioneer families. She was wed to John Sherman when he was a struggling young lawyer and shared with him all the earlier hopes and aspirations, as well as the later Mansfield honors of his public life. In all that constituted true womanhood, Mrs. Sherman was an ornament to her sex.
She had passed the allotted three score and ten. Her life had been crowned with all that gives mobility to womanhood. She was a helpful companion to her husband, beneficent to her fellow creatures, kindly considerate of others and in every walk of life showed the grace and dignity of her nature.
In the last shadow cast upon his declining years, through the departure of his life time companion, Mr. Sherman has the sincerest sympathy of friends throughout the world.
