Civil War Union Army Officer. Surgeon of the 8th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. He graduated at the Jefferson Medical College in 1834. Between the years 1858 and 1861 he pursued his profession in Blackwood. On September 14th of the latter year he entered the volunteer service as surgeon of the 8th New Jersey Regiment and continued with it until April 7, 1864, when he resigned. He was the son of Dr. John McKelway.
