Ubalde Francois-Xavier [Sévérin] Cormier, whose given name is often misspelled as 'Hubalde', was the eldest son of Sévérin and Léocadie Cormier. Baptized 'Sévérin Ubalde François-Xavier' on the day of his birth, he grew up on the family farm in St- Léonard-Parent, New Brunswick, Canada, and never strayed from his hometown roots.
In 1903 at age twenty, Ubalde married a local girl with whom he would eventually have thir- teen children (nine girls and four boys). After marrying, he and his wife settled into a life of farming on a parcel of land adjacent to his father's farm in Parent; and though two of the Cormier children would die as infants and an- other as a young teen, nine of the remaining ten would eventually marry and shower the couple with many grandchildren.
Ubalde survived his wife by nearly eight years and passed away at age eighty-one, from a coronary thrombosis. On August 18, he was carried to his final resting place in the parish cemetery; and though he was survived by one sister, Alice (Cormier) Morin, he was the long- est lived of Sévérin and Léocadie's eight child- ren.
