Santiago Amaro was a native of San Antonio, born to Santiago and Susie Amaro on April 19, 1929. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired from the San Antonio Express-News after 28 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife Consuelo Amaro and a grandson, Robert F. Gomez, Jr.
