Richard Tilden was born in October of 1520 in Benenden, Kent, England. His parents are unknown. He was a yeoman, or farmer. He married a woman named Elizabeth, possibly Elizabeth Glover. They were probably married in Benenden. They had five children born in Benenden, then moved to Tenterden, Kent. Where they had four more children between 1554 and 1561. Richard died in Tenterden, in late January of 1566, and was buried in the churchyard of St. Mildred's Church, now known as Tenterden Cemetery, on January 26.
