Della Elizabeth (Thompson) Neal was the daughter of Robert and Louisa Jane (Blankenship) Thompson.
She was the second wife of John Neal. The couple were married on December 11, 1905 in Albany, Clinton Co, Kentucky. The ceremony took place at the home of her father, Robert "Bob" Thompson. Bob Thompson and William Stone were the witnesses.
Together the couple had three children; a son Ernest (Born: 25 Jan 1909/Died: 30 Jul 1911) and two daughters, Wilma Lucille Neal (Born: 14 Jul 1910/Died: 20 Sep 1969) and Roxie Beatrice (Born: 16 Aug 1914/Died: 7 Aug 1988).
Della also had a son (out of wedlock, prior to her marriage with John Neal), Chester R. Thompson (Born: 7 Aug 1904/Died: 6 Jun 1933).Chester's father is unknown.
On the 1910 US Federal Census he was listed as Chester Neal, relationship "stepson".
Additional note: Della's parents are listed on the same census living two homes away. Family records show that Chester returned to his birth name of "Thompson" after his mother's death. He was raised by his uncle, William Thompson (Della's brother) and can be located in the 1920 US Federal Census, as Chester Neal, relationship "nephew". On the 1930 US Federal Census, Chester uses the name "Ray Thompson".
Ernest Neal, Chester R. Thompson and Dellie E. Thompson, (Chester's daughter and Della's granddaughter and namesake) are also buried at the Locust Grove Cemetery.
Della died at the age of 36,when she was shot and killed during a robbery at her home in Huntersville.
John Neal died on 9 Feb 1915 in Huntersville, Clinton Co, KY.
On John Neal's military pension record,"Delly Neal" is listed filing as a "guardian" under minor, with an application date of 4 Mar 1915. It is also important to note that Della could not file as a "widow", due to the fact that she did not marry John Neal prior to 27 Jun 1890. That was the date that the Dependent Pension Act was passed and it required that the marriage to the solider be prior to the Act.
Also noted on the 1910 US Federal Census, John is marked as "Wether a Survivor of the Union or Confederate Army or Navy". Pension records state that he served in the Union Army, Kentucky, Mounted Infantry, Company H, Regiment 30: Rank:Private.
After the death of Della, their daughters were raised by their aunt, Rose Etta (Thompson) Pierce. Etta Pierce was Della's older sister.
