James Clarence Barker, 78, died at his home in Havre de Grace.

A farmer, he also had a fruit market and was formerly employed by the Glenn L. Martin Co., Baltimore.

Mr. Barker was named a Harford County Living Treasure by the County Council, an honor bestowed upon longtime county residents. He was a member of the Bee Keepers of America.

He was the husband of the late Pearl Farmer and the father of the late Charlotte Dowden. He was formerly married to Delphine Barker of Havre de Grace.

His survivors include six children, Harold E. Barker, Virginia Stamper and Helen B. Logan, all of Havre de Grace; David L. Barker of Clearwater, FL; James P. Barker, Bel Air; Naomi R. Douglas of Baltimore; a step-son, Fred Farlow of Port Deposit; five brothers, Garnett Barker of Elkton; Ray, Charles W. and Robert Barker, all of Marion, VA; Herbert Barker of Troutdale, VA; two sisters, Alma Joines, Sparta, NC; and Mary James of Troutdale; a half-brother, Dexter Barker of Bland, VA; four step-sisters, Arvina Hart, Lettie Dean, both of Thomasville, NC; Betty J. Tibbs of Sugar Grove, VA; Bobbie J. Taylor of Thornburg, VA; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren.

Services were held at the Bible Baptist Church, Aberdeen, MD, with the Rev. Halsey Neff officiating. The pallbearers were James, Carl and Tony Logan, James Spicer, Mike Boyd, and Wilmer Rowland.
