Earl was born in Magoffin County, Ky, to Richard Bolen, and Berthinie "Bertha" Russell Bolen, and married Ruby (Ritchie) Bolen. Earl, and Ruby's kids are Caroyln "Sue" Moore, Ronnie Bolen, Glenn Bolen, Johnny Bolen,Jerry Bolen, Danny Ray Bolen, Vicki L. Rowe, Linda Barker, and Brenda Shoemaker. Earl had a love for music, and played the Banjo everywhere he went.
