Mary Elizabeth O'Connor Ramsaur died unexpectedly on May 28, 2007 the day before her 89th birthday. Mary was a fourth generation native Californian. She was born in San Francisco on May 29, 1918 to James J. and Mary Z. O'Connor. She was reared in Berkeley, attended St. Augustine's Catholic School in Oakland, Holy Names High School in Oakland and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1940. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Colonel Robert Tully Ramsaur (retired-USAF) in 1988. Mary's life as an Air Force officer's wife took her all over the country and throughout the world, which led to many lasting friendships. She resided in Rossmoor, in the Tice Valley area of Walnut Creek, for 28 years. She is survived by her three children James Walker Ramsaur (and wife Rose Claire) of Oakland, Robert Tully Ramsaur, Jr. (and wife Claire) of Santa Barbara and Mary Carolyn Ramsaur of Fairbanks, Alaska. Per her wishes, services were private. HULL'S WALNUT CREEK CHAPEL (925) 934-5400.

In her retirement, Mary Elizabeth O'Connor Ramsaur travelled to China, the Soviet Union and Poland with a Cal Alumni Travel group, and to Alaska several times. Always adventuresome, she even went whitewater rafting down the American River, in the California Gold Rush country, with her daughter, Mary Carolyn, and others.

Mary Elizabeth O'Connor Ramsaur was a kind and jovial spirit, who always had a smile and something nice to say. Mary Elizabeth O'Connor Ramsaur was known to enjoy a "black and tan"—her favorite sundae—at Fenton's ice cream parlor in Oakland.

Rewritten from information published in the San Francisco Chronicle from June 6 to June 7, 2007, and in the Contra Costa Times on June 7, 2007.
