NOTES: George H. C. Schwartz received an A.B. from The Johns Hopkins University in 1908, then pursued some graduate study in German and Romance languages. He taught German and English at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. Later he worked as personnel director and as head insurance investigator for United States Fidelity & Guaranty Co., an insurance company. Son a of Lexington Market grocer, George and his four siblings grew up at 520 N. Fulton Avenue.
George's wife, Cordelia Smith Schwartz, died in St. Michaels, Talbot Co., Md., on 24 April 1993; she may be buried with him.
