BETTENDORF — Bonnie R. Menes, 57, of Bettendorf, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City after a lengthy battle with ALS. Services to celebrate her life will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 29, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.
Bonnie Rebecca Menes was born in Davenport in 1955, a daughter of Herman and Virginia Alcala. She had five brothers and four sisters, including a twin sister, Connie. After the death of her parents, she lived with her uncle and aunt, Joseph and Marilyn Alcala. Following her graduation from Davenport Central High School in 1973, she helped her twin sister, Connie, raise her niece, Lynn Deal, and nephew, Brian Ewers. During this time, she also worked for Bawden Printing in Davenport.
On June 23, 1995, Bonnie married Duane Menes in Davenport. Together, they enjoyed fishing and gardening. She also enjoyed bowling with her twin sister and her stepdaughter, JoAnn.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Duane Menes; her twin sister, Connie Ewers, along with brothers, George (Sandy) Cox and William Cox; three other sisters; her aunt, Marilyn Alcala; stepchildren, Debra (Ron) Halsrud, JoAnn (Pat) McDonnell and Sheila Menes; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
