When James and Susan first came to Indiana, they built a cabin. That cabin has been taken apart and rebuilt in the town of Lawrenceburg. The following is information about the cabin:

ANGEVINE LOG CABIN

Built by James Angevine, this log cabin dates to about 1820. James was born in. New York City and, although he was a sailor for a while, abandoned the water to enter the grocery business with $500 capital. He met with excellent success and was soon on the move to this county in 1818. He purchased 1,100 acres of land in York Township.

His first log cabin was built on Tanners Creek, but was washed away in a flood. Not conceding defeat, built this cabin on the top of the hill overlooking the first cabin site around 1820. He and his wife, Susan, lived there and birthed twelve children, only one dying in infancy. Around 1834 Susan inherited money from her father and they built a large stone house on Hartman Road in York Township which still stands. Susan died in 1869 and James died in 1874 after moving to LaSalle County, Illinois.
