US MARINE CORPS WORLD WAR II

William F "Bill" Schulz Junior entered the Marine Corps 25 January, 1943 from Davenport, Iowa. Completed recruit training in the 8th Recruit Training Battalion, MCB San Diego, CA. Volunteered and accepted for Marine Raider training.

During March, 1943 assigned to Raider Company, HQ Battalion, Training Center, MCB Camp Pendleton, CA. During June, 1943 assigned to the 22nd Replacement Battalion, MCB Camp Elliott, CA.

1 July, 1943 embarked SS Bloemfontein at San Diego for movement overseas. 19 July, 1943 arrived Noumea, New Caledonia. 26 July, 1943 assigned to K Company, 3rd Raider Battalion, 1st Raider Regiment billeted at Camp St Louis. Promoted to Private First Class.

6 October, 1943 embarked USS President Adams (APA-19) at Noumea. 11 October, 1943 arrived at Guadalcanal based at Camp Tetere.

19 October, 1943 embarked USS Fuller (APA-7). 21-25 October, 1943 landing rehearsals Efate, New Hebrides. 1 November, 1943 landed Green Beach One, Puruata Island Bougainville D-Day. 4 November, 1943-11 January 1944 participated in combat operations on Bougainville.

12 January, 1944 embarked SS President Adams (APA-19) at Bougainville. 14 January, 1944 arrived at Guadalcanal. 1 February, 1944 assigned to K Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines (Rein), I Marine Amphibious Corps, (I MAC) at Tassaforanga Point. Promoted to Corporal.

17 March, 1944 embarked Naval Transport. 20 March, 1944 landed on Emirau Island, St Mathias Group. 11 April, 1944 embarked USS Crescent City (APA-21). 14 April, 1944 arrived at Guadalcanal based at Tassaforanga Point. 18 April, 1944 designated K Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade.

4 June, 1944 embarked USS George Clymer (APA-27) at Guadalcanal. 8-10 June, 1944 at Kwajalein Atoll, Marshalls. 5-14 July, 1944 at Eniwetok Atoll, Marshalls. Killed in Action during D-Day operations at Beach White Two Guam 21 July, 1944.

Next of Kin: Parents Mr William F. Schulz Sr and Mrs Loretta G Schultz, 1622 West 8th St Davenport Iowa.

Initially buried in Plot C, Row 3, Grave 15 in USAF Cemetery Guam #2, Agat, Guam.

1948 returned to US for permanent burial in Fairmont Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa.
