Standing 5 ft. 6 in. tall with a dark complexion, brown eyes, and brown hair, Elisha Bigelow was a 26 year-old Sailor from Connecticut, when he was drafted and mustered into service on August 26, 1863.
Taken prisoner at the North Anna River in Virginia on May 23, 1864, Prisoner of War records state he was held at Richmond from May 25th to May 31st when he was sent to Andersonville. Elisha was admitted to the prison hospital on August 11, 1864 and died that same day due to Remittent Fever.
