DU QUOIN -- Frances Elaine (Bailey) Slater, 90, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013, in Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Frances had been a homemaker and a cook for District 300 schools for many years. She was a member of Sunfield United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary.

She was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Du Quoin, the daughter of Luther and Eva (Jones) Bailey. She married Gene Jay Slater on June 1, 1941, in St. Louis, and he preceded her in death Nov. 27, 2011.

Survivors include four daughters, Claudia Graul, Jo Ellen Wilson and husband, Earl, Toni Behm and husband, Steve, and Carrie Haggard and husband, David, all of Du Quoin; one daughter-in-law, CeVene Slater of Midland, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Amy Slater (Tasha) of Blue Springs, Mo., Neill Slater (Ana) of Midland, Texas, Drew Graul of Du Quoin, Jennifer Nehring (Robert) of Du Quoin, Mindy Bailey (Kevin) of Pinckneyville, Ryan Brock (Jessi) of Ashley and Jessi Behm, Judson Behm, Jordan Behm, Katherine Haggard and Madelyn Haggard, all of Du Quoin; nine great-grandchildren, Ricquel Worthington, Jayden Slater, Bailey Nehring, Eli Nehring, Autumn Bailey, Kelsey Bailey, Gabe Brock, Ella Brock and Parker Behm-Smith; and another great-grandson expected in August.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert E. Slater; one granddaughter, Kristi Graul; and one sister, Fleta Eubanks.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 11, in Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Rev. Donna Blythe officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home.
