German artist. His works fall in the area between Impressionism and Expressionism. Born in Marggrabowa, East Prussia, he was one of the most important Berlin secessionists and had the well known art dealer and publisher Paul Cassirer as his promoter. His works were primarily landscape representations that were well received, and done during the short period between 1901 and 1918. It is estimated that he created approximately 200 paintings and 50 designs, lithographies and rubbings prior to his death. His paintings appear different from expressionists, who perceive depth and from the impressionists who perceive an initial image and light. His works were successful in imparting the vision and feeling of an internal order. Beginning in 1906 his work in the exhibitions with the Berlin seccessionists began to generate excitement and draw attention. He participated in more and successful exhibitions in Dresden, Duesseldorf, Bremen and Weimar. In 1912 received the Villa Romana Prize created by Eduard Arnhold. Shortly after von Brockhusen's untimely death, however, his work lost visibility in the art world. His works are found in only five museums and in private holdings. Died in Berlin.
