James Roy Stephens
James Roy Stephens was born May 31, 1924 in Stearns, Kentucky and passed away on January 11, 2004. He was one of six children born to Lucy Mae and Oda McKinley Stephens. Jim Stephens was a veteran, serving his country for over 21 years through three wars. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 during World War II. One week after his 20th birthday, Jim found himself deep in the middle of the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944. By the grace of God, he survived. After World War II, he returned to civilian life for a few years and found he preferred the military. He then enlisted in the Air Force, soon spending a one year tour in Korea in another war. After the Korean War, life got a little better for Jim and his family. Tours in Illinois, Mississippi, California and even Hawaii came his way. Then came Vietnam and Jim answered the call again. After three wars he decided enough was enough and retired from the Air Force in 1971. After retirement, Jim stayed in the Fairfield-Suisun area until 1998 when he moved to California City, California where he spent the remainder of his years. Jim was preceded in death by this parents, brother Charles Stephens and son Charles Michael Stephens ("Mike" to all of us) of Fairfield. He is survived by his wife Patty J. Stephens of Sacramento, California; daughter, Mrs. Pamelia Carcus of California City; stepdaughter, Gail Wolfe of Flint, Michigan; stepson, Wayne Supinger of Taft, California; twin sisters, Blanch Booher of New Castle, Indiana and Beulah Perkins of Chillicothe, Ohio, Marie Anderson of Crossville, Tennessee; brother, Earl "Buddy" Stephens of Monterey, Tennessee; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and last but not least, a host of friends. Internment was in the California City Memorial Park.
