George was born in Trenton, old Hunterdon (now Mercer) Co., NJ. He served as a private in the Hunterdon Militia during the Revolutionary War, 1776-1778.

He married Catalina Stout between 1779 and 1782. He purchased land in Nottingham Twp., old Burlington Co., NJ (now Hamilton Twp., Mercer Co.) in April 1793. He might have lived in Monmouth County prior to that, as his wife was referred to as of Middletown, NJ, in April 1793.

George probably died in East Windsor Twp., old Middlesex (now Mercer) Co., NJ.

Note: His gravestone indicates that his birth year was 1754. However, his birth date is clearly recorded as 5 Nov. 1755 in his father's family Bible record. (The year is given numerically, and also written out in words.) See "Family Records: Benjamin Yard" by Joseph R. Klett (GMNJ 64:137-143, Sep. 1989).
