Robert H. Hammond, 48, 1641 W 14th St., died Sunday at Ball Memorial Hospital after an illness of one and a half years. A native of Battle Creek, Mich., he had been a Muncie resident most of his life.
Mr. Hammond had been employed by the New York Central Railroad for 25 years, most of that time as a tower watchman. He was a member of Local 1990, Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes.
Survivors are his wife, Ruby; a son, James (Nubby) Hammond, and a daughter, Mrs. Rosalie Ruddick, both of Muncie; a brother, James, Muncie; sisters, Mrs. Berniece Newcomer, Mrs. Katherine Gibson, and Mrs. Jessie Barton, all of Muncie, and Mrs. Helen Gates, Burbank, Calif., and six grandchildren.
Services will be at Parson Mortuary at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Chesteen Ward officiating. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary after 7 p.m. Monday.
