Rev. J. J. Claypool, of Stockwell, died Saturday morning at his home, after a lingering illness, covering a period of over four years. A stroke of paralysis served to hasten his end. He was born in Boone county, Aug 7, 1842, and served in the Civil war, first in the regular service, from which he was discharged on account of physical disability, and later in the volunteer service, enlisting in Co B, 120th Ind. Inf. He married Alice Cooley, Apr 1, 1866, and is survived by a widow and three children. Mrs. F. M. Bartholomew of Stockwell; Mrs. W. P. Robins, of Kansas City, Mo., and John H. Claypool of Pine village. Mr. . Claypool became a minister of the Methodist church in 1879, and since then has had the following charges; Boswell, Rensselaer, Morton, Williamsport, Montmorenci, Kentland, Stockwell, Waveland, Romney, Newtown, Colfax, Francesville and Kirkland. Rev Claypool superannuated in 1910, taking up his residence in Stockwell. Ill health was the cause for his retirement. The funeral will be in charge of District Superintendent A. W. Wood, and will take place at the Methodist church at Stockwell tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock. Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery. Rev. Claypool was an upright, Christian man who has devoted his life in his religious ministry, during which he has made innumerable friends. His long siege of ill health did not break down his spirit and he died beloved to all his acquaintances.
