James Clotario, of El Llano, was predeceased by his father Jose Clotario Martinez; mother Orlinda Martinez; maternal grandparents Felix and Apolonia Espinoza; paternal grandparents Fidel and Adelina Martinez; and nieces Claudette Martinez and Anna Ortiz.

James was survived by his companion Jenifer Sisneros of Santa Clara Pueblo; his children: Jamie Martinez, Jesus Martinez (companion Maria "Lupé" Carmona), and Armando Martinez; mother of his children, Yolanda Martinez; three grandchildren: Josiah "BooBoo" Martinez and Serenity Faith Duran; step granddaughter Shayenne "Sunshine" Naranjo; sisters: Annette Gonzales (husband Antonio) of Rio Chama; Sharon Dunsworth (husband Robert) of Arizona, Pamela Chavez (companion Alvin Flowers) of El Llano; brother Joseph Martinez of Rio Chama; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

James was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend. James loved nature and being in the mountains. He always loved to be around people and enjoyed educating others about his culture & traditions. James new the bible from cover to cover and would often share his knowledge with others.

A visitation and evening service were on 27 June 2013 at The Rock Christian Fellowship in Española. A memorial service was on 28 June 2013 also at The Rock Christian Fellowship. Burial followed in the Santa Cruz Cemetery. Pallbearers: Joshua Chavez, Clarence Chavez, Kevin Martinez, Bradley Martinez, Kenny Moya, and Rick Aragon. Honorary Pallbearers: Josefita Chavez, Lorenzo 'Humphrey' Aragon, Felipe 'Hipe' Aragon, Mark Chavez, Cathy Maestas, and Debbie Lopez.
