Barzillai was the son of Job West and Sarah Jackson of Mullica Hill, Gloucester Co., NJ. His grandfather Joseph Jackson was appointed his and three siblings' guardian in 1800 on petition of their mother Sarah.
He married first to Mary Iszard by 1818. He married second to Phebe Tomlin on 12 Nov. 1840 in Gloucester Co., NJ.
He was a farmer and resident of Greenwich Twp., Gloucester Co., 1830-40, and Harrison Twp., Gloucester Co., 1850-62.
