Fred was the son of William Oscar Packard and his wife, Anna Otto Packard.
Fred and wife, Cora Packard, are found in the 1940 Census. Living in Covert, Van Buren County, Michigan. At the time, he was 74 years old. He died at age 92.
Their children were Eula, Oscar, George, Lyle, Robert, and Olive.
The following is a wedding anniversary announcement that was originally printed in the Palladium Newspaper of Benton Harbor, Michigan dated March 5, 1953:
MR. AND MRS. PACKARD - COVERT, March 6 (1953) - The 84th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Packard of Covert will be celebrated by the Packard family on Friday, March 6. The couple does not plan to entertain formally because of the ill health of Mrs. Packard. Miss Cora Doty and Fred Packard were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Doty of Paw Paw Lake by the Rev. (B) of the Coloma Methodist church on March 6, 1889. They first resided In Benton Harbor, but returned to Covert in January of 1890 where they have lived since that time. Mrs. Packard was born in Saginaw on May 6, 1869, coming to Covert with her parents when she was five years old. Her father, a sawyer in the Packard Mills, sawed all the lumber used in building the Covert Congregational church a fact of which she is extremely proud. The bell on the same church was donated by Mr. Packard's father, William Oscar Packard. Mr. Packard was born in Ganges on Oct. 10. 1865, and came to Covert when he was six. Both the Packard's were active in the Odd Fellow and Rebekah lodges, and Mrs. Packard is a member of the local OES chapter, No 488 and the Covert Congregational Church. The couple has six children: Mrs. Eula Brown of Kalamazoo, now caring for her parents in Covert, Oscar H. of Kalamazoo; George A of Covert; Lyle O. of Chicago; Robert L. of South Haven; and Mrs. Olive Kasishke of Tulsa, Oklahoma. They also have 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Fred E. Packard - Covert - Sept. 21, 1957 Fred E. Packard, 92, died Friday morning at the Easterly rest home in South Haven where he had been a patient for several months. born Oct. 19, 1865 in Ganges, Mi. (missing text) Packard in the late 1860's. They were Covert pioneer residents. Mr. Packard is survived, by two daughters, Mrs. Eula M. Brown of Kalamazoo, and Mrs. Olive M. Kasishke of Tulsa, Okla.; four sons, Oscar H. of Kalamazoo, George A. of Covert, Robert L. of South Haven, and Lyle O. of Chicago: 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
