When she was but sixteen (October 8, 1832) Evaline married a young physician from Russell County, Kentucky Jeremiah Stanton Pierce. Jeremiah was a graduate of Louisville Medical Institute and was a preceptor to graduates of subsequent classes. Mr. & Mrs. Pierce would board these students completing their residency.
In 1840 Evaline and Jeremiah moved to Lancaster (Garrard County) Kentucky where they lived on Danville Street. Jeremiah developed a large practice and Evaline continued boarding students in their home. In the 1840s two young ladies moving to Garrard County to teach at the Franklin Female Insitute boarded with the Pierce family. It was in Lancaster that Evaline and Jeremiah began their family which included ten children, four sons and six daughters.
Evaline's last child was born in April of 1856 and in December of 1856 Jeremiah died within a couple weeks of becoming ill. Evaline's mother Susanna moved to Lancaster to help care for the six small children still living in the household. The 1860 census shows Evaline still operating a boarding house, her mother living in the household and three of the ten children still living at home. Evaline's mother died in 1868 Evaline moved to Daviess County, Indiana to live with her son James. While living in Daviess County, daughter Alice married Cornelius Vannoy Baldwin, M.D., Sarah married William Henry Frets, and Lucy married William S. Knott an attorney.
In 1884 William and Lucy moved to Los Angeles where William joined the firm of Kendrick & Knott and in 1892 Cornelius moved his practice to California as well. November 4, 1898 there was a small notice in the Garrard County Central Record Newspaper reading: "The remains of Mrs. Dr. J.S. Pierce were brought from Los Angeles Cal. and interred in the Lancaster Cemetery yesterday. She and her husband resided in Lancaster for many years, and were well known to older citizens of the town." Another memorial from the Los Angeles Nazarene mentioned that Mrs. Pierce "died after a few days' illness" and that she "was greatly beloved by a large circle of acquaintances in the city, where she has resided for the last fourteen years" which would make Eveline's move to Los Angeles in the 1880's as well.
