Lena B. Phipps was born and raised in Rogersville, TN and later came to Kingsport, TN to work at the Borden Mill that later became J.P. Stevens and retired from there in the mid 1960s. She made her home in the upstairs apartment of the Avery Sizemore family home of 805 Federal St. from the 1950s until 1966. Lena never married. She was a kind lady that had an unforgettable laugh and is greatly missed by those that knew her.

At the time of her death, she was survived by sisters Sally Lou (Mrs. G.H. Stout), Minnie Belle (Mrs. William G. Miser) and Marian (Mrs. James A. Walters). Also surviving were her brother H. Clint Phipps and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her older sister Josephine "Jo" Phipps.
