Captain John BALL Stafford County, Virginia. Married 1767 to Sara Ellen PAYNE (b. 1745 - d. 1826). Captain John BALL was recommended by the county clerk of Fouquia co. on Oct 25, 1779. See "Virginia Militia in the Revolutionary War", by Joseph Thompson McAllister. "McAllister's Data", Section 261 - page 199. Captain BALL owned valuable iron works and furnished supplies that were of great service during the Revolution (see "Hayden's Military Record). Captain BALL also gave much material and financial assistance toward the expense of the war and rendered great service toward establishing American Independence. He was a second cousin of George Washington and served on his staff. His father, William BALL, being a first cousin of Washington's mother, Mary BALL.
