Lewis Carroll Maxwell Jr., a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at the age of 83. He closed his eyes in death and stepped into the tangible reality of his faith completely healed of all infirmities and truly free.

He graduated from Central High School in 1948 and earned a B. S. degree in engineering at the University of Chattanooga in 1964. After serving two years in the U. S. Army, he returned to BellSouth Telephone Co. where he remained until he retired in 1987.

He was active in this life in his community through the Chattanooga Business Mens Committee, the Half-Century Club and served as past president of the Bellsouth Pioneers Club.

He was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by both parents, Lewis C. Maxwell Sr. and Sammie Brandon Maxwell.

He is survived by his loving wife, Anita; one daughter, Diane Rush (Dick), of Chattanooga, TN; two grandchildren, Jordan Rush (Sarah), of Knoxville, TN and Ashley Hayes (Ryan), of Larwill, IN; and two great-grandchildren, Sadie Elizabeth Rush, of Knoxville, TN and Maddox Alexander Hayes, of Indiana.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the extended family of caregivers, Deborah Monroe and Nancy Henry.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 S. Moore Road, East Ridge, TN with the Rev. Bruce Daugherty officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodland Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 6735 Standifer Gap Road, Chattanooga, TN.
