Our dear husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Saturday morning, September 25, 1999, of kidney failure at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. He was 89 years old.

Joel Call Barlow was born January 10, 1910 in Bountiful, Utah to Truman Heap and Sarah Call Barlow. He was preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers, his parents, five half-brothers and a half sister. One of his siblings survives: Woodrow Barlow of Burley, Idaho.

Joel married Frances Parrish on May 27, 1935 in the Salt Lake Temple. He received his B.A. and M.A. from Utah State University in horticulture. He spent most of his professional life as a County Agent in Utah County. Watching things grow was his love from childhood until the day of his death. It gave him great pleasure to cultivate his garden and share the harvest with everyone. He was active in Kiwanis, Lions and other community programs. He filled many Church positions including Branch President, Scout Leader, Temple worker and an agricultural mission in Oklahoma. Joel and Frances loved to travel. They especially enjoyed Israel and an extended period in Iran as an agricultural consultant for the State Department. Joel will be remembered for his generosity and kindness to family, friends and neighbors.

He is survived by his loving wife, Frances, of 64 years; and four children: Carolyn (Kent) Dunford of Salt Lake City, Bonnie (Spencer) Lewis of Orem, Rulon (Sandee) Barlow of Orem and Jolene (Niels) Thompson of Albuquerque, N.M. He also leaves 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren who will cherish and honor his memory.

Services will be held at the Oak Hills Stake Center at 925 East North Temple in Provo at 12 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, 1999. Friends may call at Berg Mortuary, 185 east Center Street, Provo, Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at the Oak Hills Chapel prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Centerville Memorial Park.
