Mr. Carey Carl Cox, age 91, of 10 Highway 411 E., Rome, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at a local healthcare facility.

Mr. Cox was born in Polk County, Georgia on April 2, 1919, son of the late Carl Cox and the late Beatrice Broadaway Cox. He was married to the former Faye Shiflett on August 13, 1943, and she preceded him in death on October 6, 1979. Mr. Cox was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He worked for a number of years for the Celanese Corporation and then retired from the City of Rome Water Department. Mr. Cox was a member of the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church where he attended the Joshua Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mrs. Lucille Balliew, and Mrs. Dorothy Tyson, and by 3 brothers, Norman Cox, Claude Cox, and William Cox.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Joyce Jackson and her husband, Jimmy, Rome; a son, James Cox and his wife, Janice, Lindale; 5 grandchildren, Mrs. Bambi Reed and her
husband, Aaron, Sumter, SC, Mrs. Cindy Nelsen and her husband, Bruce, Jacksonville, FL, Ken Cox and his wife, Tammy, Rome, Mrs. Kay Chandler and her husband, Britt,
Lindale, and Andy Jackson and his wife, Robyn, Calhoun; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 11am in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Bagley and his pastor, Dr. Mike
Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Friday from 6 until 8pm. At other hours the family may be contacted at the residence of a daughter,
Mrs. Joyce Jackson, 2912 Maple Road, Rome.

Both active and honorary pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons
Funeral Home on Saturday at 10:30am and include: Active: Mike Silver, Roger Lemaster, Wayne Davis, Ray Cox, Adam Cox, and Steve Cox. Honorary: Jerry Blankenship, Ted Broadaway, Terry Simmons, Kinny Newberry, Sonny White, and members of the Joshua Sunday School Class which include: Cecil Popham, Hoyt Cox, Jim Mehaffey, Talmadge Pitts, Tommy Fountain, Jackie Shores, Ed Proctor,
