WALTON — Virginia S. Williams, a longtime resident of Griswold Street, Walton, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Crest Manor Nursing Rome in Fairport.
She was born July 17, 1913, in Walton, the daughter of John and Hazel Wilson Schlafer. A 1931 graduate of Walton High School, she studied dental hygiene at Eastman Dental Dispensary in Rochester. She was employed at dental offices in Delhi and Walton and at the Walton High School.
In 1940, she married Dan C. Williams. He predeceased her in 1977.
Mrs. Williams was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Walton, and Eastern Star for many years. She was involved in a wide range of community activities and was known for her adventurous spirit and love of life.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Ron Olson, of Fairport; a brother, Dr. Reynold Schlafer and wife, Ruth, of Pinehurst, N.C.; a sister, Margaret Shepard, of Tallahassee, Fla.; a brother-in-law and wife, Richard and Phyllis Williams, of Walton; and her granddaughter, Mrs. Sharon (Darryl) Howes, and three great-grandchildren, residing in Barker.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, Jan. 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Clark & Winter Funeral Home in Walton.
Funeral services and burial will be Tuesday at Walton Cemetery at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Chervell Council officiating.
Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Walton, the Walton Emergency Squad or to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, Route 10, Delhi NY 13753.
