Jessie Mae Warden was born Apr 29, 1921 to Jess J. Warden and Nellie Mae Johnson in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She was the oldest of three children born to their union. Her parents divorced when she was approximately 12 years old. She met Lawrence Edward Turner when she was 18 years old and had two children with him: Roy Ronald (b. 1940) and Brenda Gail (b. 1948). When that relationship failed she moved to Atlanta, Georgia to be closer to her mother. There she met Marvin Eugene Parker whom she married on Jul 16, 1955. He was a big man 6'2" and about 185 pounds, she was a petite 5" tall and weighed 120 pounds so they were quiet the pair. They were married 32 years until his death on Apr 4, 1987. They had one child together Deborah Jean "Debbie" Parker.

Jessie Parker was my mother. She was a wonderful cook and most holidays were celebrated at "Aunt Jessie's" house. Her pound cake was legendary and she always made them for potlucks, funerals and to give to friends and neighbors. She had a green thumb and her yard was always the envy of the neighborhood. Complete strangers would stop and ask about it and they always went away with "clippings" to start their own plant. As a teenager I was always terrified that she would see an interesting plant while we were traveling. We always had a shovel and newspaper in the trunk to take our own "clippings". She loved to crochet and spent hours making afghans in the evenings while watching TV. She always had a jigsaw puzzle set up and she passed that love on to me. She was so full of energy even when in her 70's I still had a hard time keeping up with her. Her hands were never still. She worked all day in her yard or cooking and then at night she'd crochet or work on her puzzles. Her passion was sports, especially baseball. She loved the Atlanta Braves and never missed a game on TV. She always watched the Atlanta Falcons and Georgia Bulldogs.
