Charles arrived in the U.S. in 1866. He married Charlotte Anna Jochum 11 May 1872 in the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, Scranton, PA. He was a carpenter until be bought a tract of land near Mt. Cobb, PA. The family moved and he turned to farming. He was operated on for a hernia and died shortly afterwards, probably from an infection. He was a member of the Evangelical Church. He was said to have been a "true and faithful member to the end." He was a devoted husband and father, an honest, upright citizen, and respected neighbor. He and Charlotte had nine children. Mary, Charles, Frederick, Lucy, George, John, Charlotte, William and Freda.
