Elgie Ernest Rogers
SHREVEPORT, LA- Elgie Ernest Rogers departed this life on May 8, 2013 surrounded by his family in Shreveport, Louisiana. Funeral services honoring his life will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor John Harp and a graveside service will follow at Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery in Saline, Louisiana at 3:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the funeral home.
Born in Saline, Louisiana on February 20, 1932, Elgie was the first of four children born to Ernest and Lillie Belle Rogers. Following his Saline high school graduation in 1950, Elgie obtained degrees from Spencer Business College in 1951 and Northwestern State University in 1955. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He began his working career in gas measurement and accounting with Texas Eastern and spent the majority of his career as a supervisor at AT&T, retiring from the company in 1988 after many years of service.
Elgie married his childhood sweetheart, Barbara Annette Evans, on August 31, 1957. They were happily married for over 55 years, serving as faithful examples of God's love to their family and friends. They enjoyed many vacations with their family and spent years traveling across the United States in their motorhome. Elgie also relished spending time doing genealogy research and visiting the gravesites of many of his ancestors.
A faithful follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, Elgie was ordained as a deacon at Temple Baptist Church where he served the Lord in numerous leadership positions. He was currently a member of Brookwood Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Known as a humble, kind, loving, compassionate, and gentle man, Elgie valued hard work, fairness, and honesty. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Elgie was proceeded in death by parents and his sister, Maribeth Hall. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Evans Rogers; his daughter Constance Monette and husband Dick of Greenwood; his son Evan E. Rogers and wife Alicia of Shreveport; his daughter Deanna Rasnic and husband Scott of Allen, Texas; and his eight grandchildren: Amber Monette Dent, Matthew Monette, Hannah Monette, Rachel Rogers, Rebekah Rogers, Ethan Rogers, Isabelle Rogers, and Gabriel Rasnic. His first great grandchild is on the way and due to be born in September. He is also survived by his sisters Rowina Mathews and Martile Sebren
Serving as pallbearers are Dick Monette, Matthew Monette, Ethan Rogers, Scott Rasnic, Gary Hall and Jonny Dent.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. William Haynie and Dr. Dan Moller and their staffs for the many years of compassionate, exceptional care and guidance they provided.
