"Riceville, June 13 - Simon Kelsey, highly respected and well known throughout this section, died at his home one and a half miles from this village on Sunday, June 10, at 7 am. He had been a great sufferer with a complication of diseases for a number of years. Mr Kelsey was born on Dec 4, 1836, in the state of Ohio, and he came to this vicinity when a young man. The greater portion of his life had been passed on the farm where he died. He was united in marriage sixty years ago with Miss Maria Morrison of Kinzua, Warren county, and to this union eight children were born, as follows: Mrs Ellsny Charles (sic) [Emma Chase] who died three years ago, William Kelsey of Union City, Mrs Rose Morrison of Kinzua, Mrs Mary Holford of Sparta township, J Kelsey and Mrs Erma Lenea (sic) [Lines] of Centreville, Mrs Gena Alsdorf of Sparta township, and Miss Minnie Kelsey at home. He also leaves one sister, Mrs George Sutton of Niobe, NY. The funeral will be held at the family home this afternoon at 1 o'clock, and the interment will take place in the Riceville cemetery."
