Vernon Ragland, 89, passed away September 10, 1987 in Long Beach, CA.
The son of the late S.A. and Vallie Kirby Ragland, he was a native of Jackson Countian, having taught in the Jackson County school system before moving to California where he was employed by the City of Long Beach.
He was married to the late Lena Brown Ragland. They had three sons: Grady, Kenneth and Murphy, who survive; also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include five sisters, Mrs. Nell Apple, Russellville, KY, Mrs. Doris Apple, Gainesboro, Mrs. Ethel Brown and Mrs. Elsie Huff of Granville, and Mrs. Bobbye Ann Williams, Old Hickory; two brothers, Verble Ragland, Rickman and Thurman Ragland, Warren, MI and his step-mother, Mrs. Ann Ragland, Gainesboro.
Many nephews and nieces also survive, including Vernon Ragland, his name sake, who is the Jackson County Trustee.
