Aged 85. He was the eldest son of John Dickerson (1803-1869) and Adeline M. Taylor (1807-1878). He moved to Plympton, Massachusetts to work as a rural school teacher before marrying "Lady" Katherine in 1854. After the death of their daughter, Addie in Plympton, they re-located to Philadelphia, PA. Elkanah ran a successful tobacco business, working mostly as a merchant. He was a descendant of Governor John Webster of Colony of Connecticut.
