February 1, 1855 Marion County Naturalization Records, State of Iowa recorded the following: Be it remembered that on this first day of February A.D. 1855, before me A. B. Miller, Clerk of District Court of Marion County, Iowa, were Henry Baumgarden [as spelled], a native of Beasel [i.e., Berschel] in Prussia [at the time], who immigrated [as spelled] from Bremen in the month of September A. D. 1854 and arrived at the Port of New Orleans on the 28th day of November, A.D. 1854, and upon his solemn oath states that it is his bona fide intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce, forever, all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, power, potentate or sovereignty of Frederick William the 5th, King of
