Born in Scotland he was a son of the late Mr and Mrs William J. Tod and came to Canada 58 years ago. He settled in East Zorra where he had farmed ever since and was well known and highly esteemed throughout the district. His wife formerly Annie Mather predeceased him by 12 years and surviving are one daughter Mrs. Frank Silcox (Ruby), Blandford Township; one son Edgar at home; three sisters also survive, Mrs. J. Blake, Windsor, Mrs M. C. Mulligan, Los Angeles Cal. And Mrs Edgar Cornfoot, Brampton; also two brothers, Jack Tod, Woodstock and William Tod Port Huron; as well as two grandchildren, John Silcox, London, and Mrs. J. Reynolds, Woodstock. The late Mr. Tod is resting at the Watson Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held Saturday April 26 at 2:30 pm. Interment will be made in the Woodstock Presbyterian Cemetery.

The following information was sent from the grand daughter of James Tod - Lorna Dobbs, Canada

"James owned 50 acres of Lot 11, Concession 13, East Zorra which he bought in 1900. A concession has 800 acres which can be divided into 50, 100, 200 acre lots. Oxford county was known as the Dairy Capital of Canada for many years. Holstein cattle were the dominant breed but we also had Jersey and Guernsey breeds. Now we have a lot of Aberdeen Angus beef cattle. Oxford is in the heart of the agricultural district because of fertile soil excellent for growing corn and grains. I think that the county was very similar to the land in Kinross, Scotland by the photos I have been looking at of Kinross. So the Tod's would have felt at home when they immigrated to Canada in 1888. Most of the family worked on a farm - the girls as servants working for the richer farmers. It looks like James was the first to buy a farm only two miles from Woodstock."
