The 1927/28 City Directory of Gadsden. Etowah Co., AL recorded Amos O. Williams, a grocer, and his wife, Gussie Williams, living and working in Bellevue Highlands.
The 1930 US Census of Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL enumerated the household of 58 Y/O A. O. Williams, a farmer born in AL, and his 39 Y/O wife, Gussie Alma Williams. Also living in the household were their children: 12 Y/O Mary Elizabeth Williams, 10 Y/O Myra Almedia Williams and 5 Y/O Alice Ruth Williams.
Amos Oliver Williams was living in Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL in 1935 but the 1940 US Census of Coloma, Cherokee Co., AL enumerated the household of 60 Y/O R. D. Connell and his 68 Y/O wife, Edda Connell. Also living in the household was 68 Y/O Amos Oliver Williams, married, living there as a lodger. There is no explanation why he is living separately from his wife, Gussie.
The 1940 US Census of Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL enumerated the household of 50 Y/O Gussie Williams. Also living in the house was her 15 Y/O daughter Alice Ruth Williams. Her 22 Y/O married daughter, Mary Elizabeth Young, and her 25 Y/O husband, Ernest Young, a cotton mill employee, were also residents of the household.
Gussie Alma (Chappell) Williams was the 2nd cousin 5 times removed through her father, Maxie Thomas Chappell, of POTUS Thomas Jefferson. (See Find A Grave Memorial #544).
