Edwin M. Rice, 92, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013. He was a Bath County native. Ed was a retired farmer and former tobacco warehouse employee. He was a member of the Slate Valley Christian Church, a Kentucky Colonel and Chairman of the Board at Slate Valley Christian Church for 56 years. Ed was a WWII Veteran. He was born March 15, 1920 to Orville Rice and Clara Highley.
Ed is survived by his wife, Elizabeth C. Rice of Mebane, N.C.; one son, James (Karen) Rice of Mebane, N.C.; one grandson, Nathan (Kristin) Rice of Pinehurst, N.C.; one granddaughter, Samantha (Taylor) Ashby of Greensboro, N.C.; four sisters, Louise Meeks of Louisville, Frances Manley of Mt. Sterling, Eula Pettit of Salt Lick and Roxie Voyle of Louisville. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
His parents and one sister, Evelyn Dahlrot, preceded Ed in death.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013 at Richie Hunt Funeral Home. Rev. Lowell Rice and Bro. Gregg Whitt officiated. Burial followed in Owingsville Cemetery.
