Leonard Nisivoccia of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Green Hill in West Orange, New Jersey. He was born in Newark, New Jersey.

Len lived in Nutley, New Jersey before moving to Toms River.

He was an Essex County Sheriff's officer from 1968 until he retired as Captain in 1993. After retiring as captain, he became a Civilian Director with the Essex County Sheriff's Department from 1993 to 2003.

He was a lifetime member of PBA Local 183 and F.O.P. Local 138, as well as a member of the American Legion Post 0129, the Nutley Elks BPO 1290, and the Italian American Civic Association of Toms River, New Jersey.

A veteran of the United States Army, Len served in the US Army from 1951 to 1957 serving in the Korean War from 1951 to 1952, where he received the Korean Service Medal, three Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie Negri-Nisivoccia and his parents, Rocco and Adelina Russomanno-Nisivoccia.

Surviving are his children, Leonard Jr. and his wife, Kathy, Michael and his wife, Valerie, Carol Lubischer and her husband, David Pinto, Linda Magness and her husband, Dave, Maria Mercadante and her husband, Vinny.

He was the beloved grandfather of 19 grandchildren and had one great-granddaughter.

Family and friends were received at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre Street, Nutley, New Jersey on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.

A funeral was held on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home followed by a Roman Catholic Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Nutley, New Jersey at 10:30 a.m.

Interment followed at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield, New Jersey.
