Joe (Joseph) Nunez/Nuinez was born 1866 in Abbevile, Louisiana- the oldest child of Joseph Aladin and Marie-Denice Suire Nunez. At a young age Joe moved ca1873 to the Texas - DeWitt County area - with his parents. His father then took on a family surname spelling as Nuinez, likely as cover from his legal problems in Louisiana. This new name spelling remained permanent for some of the family that remained in Texas, but ultimitely much of the family returned to Louisiana, took the Nunez name spelling back.

When not yet 18, Joe Nuinez was allowed to make a cattle drive to Kansas from Yorktown in 1883; upon his return he married Mary Jane Hearn 30 October 1884. - she was the daughter of James and Sarilda Trosper Hearn and a step daughter to John Clark.

Although Joe Nuinez had no formal education he successfully acquired a ranch and raised his family; a son and four daughters. He appreciated education and was able to send his children to school, some of the girls attended Sam Houston State Normal College. He was able to retire in Yorktown where both he and wife Mary Jane are buried at Westside cemetery.

Nuinez children:
Edward J. b.1885
Mary Olivia b.1887 (m. John Duderstadt Jr)
Annie b. 1889 (m. Alvin Frank Wischkaemper)
Geogia b.1892 (m. Paul Seidel
Ida b.1895 (m. Lemuel Claude Duderstadt)
