Joseph Lingal Parks, son of Moses and Elizabeth Burgan Parks, was born March 11, 1829 in Hendricks County, Indiana. United with the Disciples of Christ Church at Cloverdale, Indiana, 1843. Family moved near National, Iowa. Joseph L. Parks married Margaret Collins at McGregor, Iowa in 1851. In 1854 came to Minnesota Territory, purchasing SE ¼ (160) acres in Section 22, Pleasant Grove township.
Eight children born: Martha married Otis Pattridge, Franklin (Rebecca Yates), Lucinda (Oliver Craig), Eli (Anna Blakeslee), Emery (Vida Emery), James, Mary, and Ida died as infants.
Margaret Collins Parks died June 3, 1870, at the age of 41. Burial at Union Cemetery, Pleasant Grove.
Joseph L. Parks married Lucinda Williams Van Note. One daughter, Verna, born October 31, 1882. Her father died November 19, 1882, of typhoid fever. Burial Union Cemetery, Pleasant Grove. The widow lived on the homestead until 1885, then rented the farm and moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she died November 1, 1930.
The daughter became the owner of the Pleasant Grove township homestead. She purchased land to total 180 acres. Tenants since 1930- Theodore Hart, Lyle Noble, Glenn Bamlet and Donald Keller.
Verna Parks Rittenhouse (Harley S.) resides in Monona, Iowa. Children are, Parks and Kelly Rittenhouse, Jane (Fred B. Rosierans), Grace (Ed. F. Girot), Virginia (Vincent Nekvinda).
