Hardin was the only son of Patrick Fountian Jarrett and Lourinda Ingram.
He had 7 sisters.
He married Eliza Williams "Willie" Dunovant first and they had 3 children, the first, Maurice, died at about 1 year old.
The others were Percy and Vivian.
Willie died in 1912 of TB.

Shortly after Willie's death, Hardin married Josephine Merriman.
Together they had 5 children, Dorothy, Louise, Hardin Jr, Charles and Russell.
Hardin was a farmer all his life and operated a small sawmill for many years.
He died from an infection complication.
He lived between Spray and Draper, N.C. at the time of his death where he had raised his family.
