William E. Britton, of Danbury, Conn., died in Danbury Hospital Saturday afternoon following an illness of several weeks duration. He had been a patient in the hospital for ine week and was in his 87th year.
He was born February 16, 1863, in Pawling and moved to Danbury as a boy, making his home there ever since that time. He was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church.
He and his wife, the former Mary Pierce, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last June 20.
In additional to his wife, he is survived by a half-brother, Frederick Britton of Plymouth, Mass.; three half-sisters, Mrs. Lillian Fry of Poughkeepsie; Mrs. Jessie Benedict and Mrs. Rudolph Brumm, both of Pawling, several grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Richard Milard, rector of St James Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial was in the family plot in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
