Mrs. Shelby G. (Virginia M.) Carter, 59, of 125 Cranbrook Blvd., died of cancer at 2:50 a.m. Sunday in St. Vincent Hospital, Toledo, where she had been for three weeks. She had been in poor health for a year.
Friends may call after 7 tonight in the Earle Little Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Christ Lutheran Church, of which Mrs. Carter was a member. The Rev. Ronald E. Shirkey will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, LaSalle.
The daughter of Geroge R. and Edna G. (Berry) Almes, she was born April 17, 1921, in Vandergrift, Pa. She married Shelby G. Carter Nov. 1, 1946, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Toledo. The Rev. Louis R. Wolter officiated.
She was an active bowler and instructor at Nortel Lanes and was a fomer member of the Detroit Beach Boat Club Auxillary.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Ronald R. of Dundee; a brother, Wilbur Almes of Lakewood, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Lucille Elliott of Monroe, and a granddaughter, Rischel Carter.
Memorials may be made to any cancer fund.
