Andrew J. Lagasse, a 56-year resident of Mojave, passed away July 21, 2003 after a short battle with cancer. Family members were with him as he passed.
Mr. Lagasse was born July 21, 1928 in Limestone, Maine. He was married for 53 years to his beloved wife, Marcus. The couple had two children. Mr. Lagasse was a military man for more than 20 years. He and his wife traveled the world landing where they started — in Mojave.

I found Andrew on the 1930 census in Maine (Grand Isle, Aroostook Co.) with his parents Cornie and Leona and sister, Florence, age 3. The father's name is a little difficult to read so Cornie may be wrong. But in the 1920 census I find Andrew's father with his parents, Francois and Julie Lagasse In Grand Isle, Aroostook, Maine and his name is Corne. There are several siblings and although the parents are born in Maine, they indicate that their own parents came from Canada and spoke French as their native language.
In the 1880 census, Francois is with his parents, Hilarie and Matthilda Lagasse in Madawaska, Aroostook Co., Maine. Hilarie says he was also born in Maine but that his father was born in Canada and his mother in Maine. Matthilda says she was born in Canada, as were both of her parents.

Andrew was born April 11, 1928 in Limestone, Maine. He was a Sgt. 1st Class and D. I. in the U.S. Army. A military man for over 20 years, he was a decorated veteran. He and his wife traveled the world and landed where they started in Mojave, CA. Andrew then worked at Edwards AFB for 10 years. He chose to spend the last part of his working career managing the grounds at the Lakeshore Inn Country Club in Calif. City. He retired in 1993. He passed to the next meeting place, with the same strength and grace in which he lived. He had a great sense of humor and loved telling a good joke as much as getting one. Andrew was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

We would like to thank all of our family and friends who have been a great help during this difficult time. Andrew will be missed by many and the good Lord has another great soldier to guard the gates of Heaven.
