OBITUARY.
John Alexander Torrence was born Feb. 28, 1833, in Muskingum county, Ohio and died at the home near Denison, Kansas, Sept. 2, 1912. He was married to Sarah George, August 21, 1856, Locust Grove, Adams county, Ohio. Soon after his marriage they removed to Bremer county, Iowa, where they resided for ten years. From there they moved to Winchester, Kansas, in 1867, and remained there till 1881, when they came to Denison, Kansas, where he remained until death. 12 children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Torrence, 6 of whom are still living. Two daughters laid down their lives as missionaries in China. Mr. Torrence from a young man has been identified with the Reformed Presbyterian church and served for nearly six years as ruling elder at Denison. His great vision was of the evangelization of the world. His heart was especially wrapped up in the Christianization of China. At his own request the inscription upon his tomb stone will be "The World for Christ." In the home circle are left one daughter, Mary, and three grandchildren, who since the death of their mother, Mrs. A. L. Robb, have resided there. The funeral service was held Sept. 3rd, 1912, at the Reformed Presbyterian church, conducted by the pastor of the church. Denison item in Holton Recorder.
