He was killed at St Margaret's, Dover, when a shell hit a trench on 9 November 1942. He and 10 colleagues were killed.
Report of cause of death:
Whilst on active service at Dover and manning an anti-aircraft gun, the gun emplacement took a direct hit by a shell fired by the Germans in France. He and his colleagues were killed instantly.
